Sample Environment Science & Technology
Developing New Sample Environment Capabilities at the SNS
In house equipment design capabilities have grown with the addition of a SE dedicated engineer, and a management guided SE Steering Committee that engages instrument scientists and users in the equipment concept and design process. The R&D team within the sample environment group have designed and fabricated large and small scale projects. An automated sample changer for the EQ-SANS instrument at SNS, created by a sample environment instrument designer, was tested recently for position accuracy and repeatability. The results were promising. The automatic device demonstrated micron level accuracy and smooth motion.
