Minutes of the Accelerator Physics Group meeting 12/06/01 Present: J. Wei, J. Galambos, S. Henderson, J. Holmes, S. Danilov, S. Cousineau, S. Aleksandrov, D. Jeon, E. Tanke, P. Chu. A. Shishlo, S. Assadi, J. Wei noted that B. Weng had resigned the BNL STL position. New candidates are J. Wei and M. Harrison. The transition will occur by March. The use of a bunch shape monitor was discussed. The parameters for this diagnostice need to be specified by AP (i.e. where it is needed, bandwidth, etc.). C. Diebele is deisgning a Faraday cup for use at the end of the MEBT, for short pulses (survivibility is a concern. The BSM may also serve as a transverse profile measurement. A proposal for scraping is needed. The thought now is: add a scraper at the LEBT exit, in the MEBT use the chopper target + 2 more scrapers at an angle. Also scraping at the antichopper is a possibility. If needed, a scrapper in the firsst DTL tube is the last choice. A. Shishlo presented a virtual accelerator for applications program testing. It uses a portable channel access server to provide the same EPICS interface as the real machine (propoer PV names). It presently uses trace-3D to simulate beam response. Stuart Henderson noted that diamod foil work at ORNL is progressing. These use a small grain size, and will be supported on 2 sides. It is not known is cross carbon fibers will stick well. E. Tanke will go to LBNL and LANL to perform polarity checks on the quads. J. Wei and J. Holmes will go to PSR next week to do more space charge experiments. S. Danilov is using M. Blaskiewitz's RF code. J. Wei noted that BNL will redo the extraction kicker test, to see the influence of the ferrite and to recheck the heating test. Alexie and Nuria are in Russia doing collimation tests. S. Henderson noted that the injection kicker power supply tests indicated that there is a lack of proper regulation below 15 A, and this will need to be fixed.
