Date Oct. 10, 2000 Attendees S. Aleksandrov, S. Cousineau, S. Danilov, M. Doleans, J. Galambos, D. Jeon, J. Holmes, S. Kim, W. Wan, J. Wei J. Galambos mentioned that a conventional facility review is going on to discuss possible cost reduction actions. This is in reaction to an $85 M cost increase in the conventional facility costs. The bulk of the cost increase is in the target building, and this is the primary area of cost reduction focus. J. Wei mentioned that two new hires will be coming in the next 1-2 months, P. Chu from IU, and Eugene Tanke fro CERN. Also the operation cost budget for SNS is off by ~ $300 M over the project life. There will be a Leyman cost review on this Dec. 4-5. While visiting Japan, J. Galambos and D. Raparia will interview a student of Ken Takayama, for a possible post-doc position here. Also Ingo Hoffman may spend time in Oak Ridge with our group. We need to maintain good communication with the other groups, and in this respect John Galambos will be a contact with the Target group. BNL held a review on the kicker design and resolved the configuration to 7+7 kickers. There is a new hire at BNL who will specialize in the impedance issues. A simple table comparing the impedance, field quality and vacuum properties of the baseline, YY's idea and Slava's idea of lowe mu material is suggested. Sang ho Kim mentioned that he does not agree with Ron Sundelin's prediction of longitudinal instability for the 5/6 pi mode, and is a factor of 10 below Ron's magnitude of the effect. He will visit JLab next week for discussions on this. Dong O Jeon has done transverse BBU calculations indicationg this is not a problem (even with the transient beam structure included). He is checking the longitudinal behaviour now. Weishi Wanis working on the global coordinates, beam base alignment issues for the linac and ground motion. Sarah Cousineau presented analytic model results for BIG scenarios including different kicker waveform representations. Sensitivities to the method for cleaning different tunes were presented. Marc Doleans is working on the heat load calculations and a new Q_ext calculations. J. Galambos is working on defining the application programing requirements. Jeff Holmes is continuing the working tune point studies for the ring lattice. There are smaller beta beats for the new lattice compared to the previous ring lattice.
