A simulation was carried out in which the partially LEBT-chopped beam was deflected in the LEBT to give 50% transmission through the RFQ. If such a beam is not cleaned up completely in the MEBT, the resulting linac beam quality could be unacceptable.
Tracking studies show that 200 Amp DTL steering power supplies are sufficient. The yet to be awarded current contract for 300 Amp power supplies can be reissued for 200 Amp supplies.
The end-to-end calculation needs to be carried out promptly. The calculation will take account of MEBT mismatch errors and the best measured LEBT output beam distribution. It is necessary to perform this calculation soon so that there is time to make improvements in the case that results are bad.
